Captured

Photographing self /self-portrait has found a new definition in contemporary culture. From masks, filters and exaggerated mimics to its counter movement of no-filter and showing imperfections – we are trying to build a public image which may be far from who we are and what we feel. I portray myself using a scanner instead of a camera, to step out of the role of the photographer, to give the control to a machine which pictures me with no intentions. Collages, photograms, drawings and markings on the printed scans are applied to explore and underline my facial features unattached to the marginalised definition of beauty, to emphasise on what is natural and to develop a new culture of seeing and understanding. I seek to introduce entropy to the process through merging digital and analog techniques.
